RIP, The Call of the Waves

Following a swift and brutal education into the realities of children's book economics, the team behind The Call of the Waves has given this endeavor a decent burial at sea. Two things brought about its demise: the cost of printing, as well as the printer—IngramSpark. I have never encountered a company with less accessible and responsive customer service. They messed up the printing on batch after batch of books, and then just tried to shrug it off. Between the cost of the printing, the bookstores' share at 40 percent, the small amount left over was simply not worth the heartburn and hassle of dealing with IngramSpark. We loved the book and we loved producing it—right up until it came time to print it.
